Accelerate your patient outcomes. Elevate your status in your community. Be the facility people want to go and physicians refer.
In 14 lessons, Ed
will take you thru the process
to safely & effectively implement BFRT.
Transform the ordinary
We all know exercise is important to the rehabilitation process. In school we were taught how to use body weight, resistance bands and small dumbells for prescribed exercises. We assumed these light exercises would increase a patients strength and tolerance to load. These exercises were supposed to prepare our patients for the activities they love to do. We were wrong. Using light weights does not improve muscle size and strength according to the research. But if you add Blood Flow Restriction Training to those light weight exercises, we can get muscle size and strength changes in as little as two weeks and accelerate patients outcomes. This online course will show you how to safely and effectively implement BFRT into your facility.

Meet your instructor - clinician, author, researcher, and business owner, Ed Le Cara, DC, PhD, MBA, ATC, CSCS. Ed outlines what he has planned for your class and reflects on the idea of exercise being the most important component of manual therapy and rehabilitation.
Why Blood Flow Restriction Training?
BFRT is not for everyone or every clinic. BFRT is for those who want to improve patient outcomes and be the 'go to' facility in your area.
Case Study: Using BFRT Throughout Treatment
Ed takes you thru a case study of one of his athletes from pre-surgical to performance based training.
Indications Of Use
There are specific conditions that respond best to BFRT. Ed discusses the top three conditions that do, and the ones that do not, respond well to BFRT.
Red Flags and Contraindications: "Above All, Do No Harm"
Dr. Le Cara talks about the risks and contraindications to BFRT use. In addition, he discusses tourniquet risk and why some cuffs are better and safer than others. Included is the patient or client consent that he uses in his clinic.
Equipment Requirements: Practical and Pneumatic BFR
Ed discusses the equipment required to provide safe and effective BFRT. He also discusses the pro's and con's to both pneumatic and practical BFRT.
Limb Occlusion Pressure: Using a Doppler
Ed talks about the equipment required to provide safe and effective BFRT. He also discusses the pro's and con's to both pneumatic and practical BFRT.
Treating Tendon Conditions
Dr. Le Cara uses IPC for pain control, pre-surgically, for tendon conditions, and prior to high intensity exercise. He show's how to use in the clinic or athletic training room.
Using the cellular swelling or 'cell swell' protocol helps those assigned bed rest or in a brace/cast reduce the amount of atrophy that occurs. There are both active and passive protocols that can be utilized and he goes over the pro's and con's for both.
Aerobic Capacity Training
Using low intensity aerobic exercise to improve aerobic capacity. We discuss heart rate reserve and how to apply training on the treadmill, upper body ergometer or bike.
Isolated & Compound Exercises
When we have full range of motion of the joint we begin using isolated and integrated exercises to improve strength and increase size of the muscle(s). Dr. Le Cara discusses the reps, sets, loads, and frequency.
Recovery: Using BFR to Increase Growth Hormone
When we think of recovery, we think Growth Hormone. BFRT increases endogenous growth hormone 2.7x from baseline levels and can help repair injured or exercise damaged tissue.
Marketing Your BFRT Facility
Before investing in any new modality, a solid business and marketing plan should be in place. Dr. Le Cara discusses ways he has promoted his clinic and how BFRT has allowed him to be the 'go to' facility for athletes in the University Park area of Dallas. Included is a tri-fold brochure template that you can have edited to match your clinic branding.
